Begues

Begues

Begues sits inside the Garraf massif, home to the Rat Penat climb — one of the steepest, most feared ascents near Barcelona.

Begues lies within the Garraf Natural Park, a limestone massif of scrubland and exposed rock between Barcelona and the coast, and it's built its cycling reputation on gradient rather than distance.

The Rat Penat climb, which rises from Castelldefels toward Begues, covers under five kilometres but averages close to ten percent with ramps well past that, and has featured in professional Catalan races over the years — it's the kind of ascent local riders measure themselves against rather than simply ride.

From the village, the road also connects toward Sant Boi and Sant Climent de Llobregat through the Ordal hills, with the Mirador del Mur offering a wide view back over the Llobregat delta. Begues rewards riders looking for hard, short efforts in a Mediterranean scrubland setting, well away from the coastal traffic of nearby Castelldefels and Sitges.
