Tervuren, best known for its royal park and the AfricaMuseum, sits at the eastern edge of the Zoniënwoud — the Sonian Forest, a beech woodland stretching south from Brussels that carries one of the region's densest networks of dedicated cycling and mountain bike paths.
The town has no defining climb or race of its own, but its position matters: it lies directly on the route of the official Brabantse Pijl Cycling Route, connecting the forest paths around Tervuren to the harder, hillier roads of Huldenberg and Overijse further south — a gentle prelude to the Druivenstreek's steeper terrain.
The wider cycling network through Flemish Brabant's "Green Belt" around Brussels has been substantially renewed in recent years, adding 120 kilometres of new paths and improving 85 more — much of it converging on access points around Tervuren's forest edge.
For a base, Tervuren offers an easy, low-traffic ride into Brussels one direction and a gradual introduction to Brabant's rolling classics country the other — useful, unshowy terrain for riders easing into a harder day further south.
