Huldenberg lies in the Dijleland, the rolling country south-east of Leuven, and forms part of both the historic and modern routes of De Brabantse Pijl — the hilly classic that traditionally closes out the Flemish spring campaign each April.
The signposted Brabantse Pijl Cycling Route, launched in 2020, runs 98 kilometres through the region and passes directly through Huldenberg, climbing the Smeysberg — a short, sharp test at over 8% — before continuing toward the race's better-known finale around Overijse.
Eddy Merckx, Roger De Vlaeminck, Freddy Maertens, and Eddy Planckaert have all won on these roads; Edwig Van Hooydonk holds the record with four victories, and Mathieu van der Poel's 2019 win is still cited by local cyclotourists riding the marked route today.
For a base, Huldenberg captures the Brabantse Pijl's particular character well: none of its climbs are hard in isolation, but the relentless succession of short rises through the Dijleland's open, rolling farmland wears riders down in a way that few other Belgian regions manage.
